IB–PGA

The IB–PGA (Predicted Grade Assistant) takes data used by teachers to generate predicted grades.

You input the scaled IB scores from 1–7 for each major assessment. You also indicate if the score is in the lower, middle or upper part of the mark band for that score. Fore example, a student who scores a high 4 (almost a 5 but not quite) will be entered as a 4.8.

The PGA looks at 3 different statistics to help you determine the predicted grade for the student: Mode, Average, and Trend. It gives you more data to back up the predicted grade you ultimately decide give the student.

Mode – This is the most frequently scored value. It will consider only the values 1–7. For example: a low 6 will be treated the same as a high 6.

Average – This will take the average of each component (low, middle and high values). The results are then weighted based on the weighting IB assigns to each component. After the weighting, the PGA will then tell you the student’s averaged score along with a low, middle or high ranking.

Trend – The trend is based on the previous scores the student has earned for each component and then “predicts” what the next score would be. The PGA also tells you how much you can “trust” this prediction, as a percentage. If a student is consistent with their scores, you should see the “trust” percentage go up. If their scores are all over the place, you’ll see the “trust” percentage go down.

For the statistically inclined folks out there, the Trend “prediction” is based on a linear regression line and the “trust” is the coefficient of determination.

There will be two versions available - the Teacher Edition for individual classroom use (available now) and the School Edition where there will be places for every course taught, PG tracking for the DP coordinator, and a letter template to send to universities for applications.
